heal.abstract | The aim of this study was to investigate rapeseed crop parameters as well as their potential use as biofuel. The main point was the verification of the role of Brassica napus L. Brassicaceae like biofuel crop. The experiment showed that seed yields depend on the sowing season, and vary considerably between autumn and spring crop. The highest yields were achieved in autumn. The seed yields studied for two winter varieties were very high, i.e. 540 kg ha -1 for Vectra and 487 kg ha -1 for Oasis. The seed oil production was high too, i.e. 38.9 and 40.9%, respectively. The seed yields studied for spring varieties were moderate, i.e.. 230 kg ha -1 for Heros and 270 kg ha -1 for Hunter. The seed yield content was 35.3 and 34.5%, respectively. What was observed was that in autumn crop, as well as in the spring one, the varieties studied were consummated their biological cycle much earlier than in northern areas of Europe. Experimental data obtained, show that oilseed rape winter crop seems to be of particular interest in western Greece, mainly due to the climate of the region with sufficient rainfalls during spring. | en |
