Soluble cell proteins obtained from 7 strains of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus and 7 strains of Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus were examined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Each species yielded a specific electrophoretic pattern, which allowed differentiation, The procedure described is fast and easy and provides a further verification of the identity of lactic acid bacteria characterized by classical microbiological methods. |
