Population structure, seasonal fluctuations and some aspects of the biology of Apion pisi F., Hypera variabilis Herbst and Sitona lineatus L. were studied in a five years lucerne plantation from April to November, 1986. A. pisi and H. variabilis were absent from the field for a quite long period of time. S. lineatus was present during the whole year but in low numbers. A comparison between the results of the present study with those of a three years old lucerne field was made. Harvest was shown to cause a drastic decrease in the numbers of eggs and immature stages of A. pisi and in the number of larvae of H. variabilis. An overall consideration, based on population structure, is also given for rational control of both species, mainly by adjusting the time of harvest. |
