The diagnosis of a new subspecies, Silene bupleuroides L. ssp. ganiatsasiana, and data on its biotope are presented. The variability of other populations of similar habit is emphasized as derived from measurements on six characteristics. The most important features of the three subspecies of S. bupleuroides (bupleuroides, staticifolia, and ganiatsasiana) are compared. Data concerning the taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships, ecology, and biological characteristics of S. bupleuroides L. are presented. The general distribution of the genus Silene as well as of the species S. bupleuroides and its three European subspecies is investigated and the distribution of S. bupleuroides agg. in Greece is mapped. The taxonomic, phytogeographic, and phylogenetic position of Silene is examined, along with the Greek species and their endemisms. |
