Biogenic amines form colored complexes with tetrabromophenolpthalein ethyl ester extracted in 1,2 dichloroethane. Complexes of β-phenylethylamine, tryptamine and tyramine that contain a benzene ring absorb strongly at 570 nm, while that of the aliphatic spermine, spermidine, cadaverine and putrescine show a small absorbance at 608 nm. All complexes are thermochromic that is absorbance decreases along the increase of temperature from 10 to 50 oC while that of the histamine is equal to zero in this temperature range. Molecular absorption coefficients are determined and their temperature dependence is elucidated. |
