heal.abstract | The effects of gibberellic acid (GA3) at five concentrations 2500, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, and 40,000 mg l-1 on two application dates, 15 December and 15 January, to dormant buds in situ on pistachio trees cv. Aegenes were examined over a period of two years. Gibberellic acid considerably advanced budbreak of flower buds, increased bud respiration rates, leaf area and shoot length, decreased the dry weight per nut but did not affect flower bud abscission or the percentage of split nuts. The results indicated that the effectiveness of GA3 in advancing blooming of female pistachio was dependent on the time of application and the chilling units accumulated the trees that time. Advance of blooming was related to GA3 concentrations. It was also found that respiration rate increased rapidly before the onset of budbreak. | en |
