heal.abstract | This paper examines the recent U.S.-Russian poultry trade dispute. Russia embargoed U.S. poultry meat on February 16, 1996, alleging that the U.S. inspection system did not meet Russian standards. After lengthy negotiations, an agreement signed on March 25, 1996, resolved the trade dispute. It established inspection criteria for exports to Russia and a testing protocol for salmonella and other residues. A political economy model linking poultry producers, trade associations, and government agencies was used to analyze the resolution of the trade dispute. | en |
