A novel late nodulin gene, namely NOD3, was isolated from a soybean cDNA library. The expression of NOD3 was induced almost simultaneously with the onset of nitrogen fixation, together with leghaemoglobin. The temporal expression pattern of the gene was studied in developing soybean nodules, by in situ hybridization. NOD3 transcripts were localized in the infected cells of the nodule central tissue and the nodule parenchyma cells. |
