heal.abstract | The two-dimensional infiltration of water into the soil mass is related to the practice of irrigation, especially with the furrow and strip irrigation. Linearized solutions to this problem have been published and their basic advantages have been explicitly stated. A crucial question, however, remains unanswered, and this is, as to how closely these analytical solutions are related with solutions which could be obtained by other means, such as, by numerical methods, when the soil hydraulic properties are not distorted to give the possibility for analytical solutions. The aim of this work is to compare analytical solutions with numerical ones, when the latter are first verified against analytical solutions under conditions which secure the existence of analytical solutions, and show how the 'true moisture profiles appear in more realistic soils. © ISHS. | en |
