Effects of seed size and organic substances on seedling emergence and root elongation were studied in four pot experiments with five cultivars of lupins. Sowing depth, soil water and the influence of gibberellin GA, on seeds were investigated too. Seed size, carbohydrates and fats were found to affect the rate of seedling emergence and root elongation. Treatment of seeds with gibberellin had no effect on seedling emergence or on the superterrestrial growth of lupins, but acted remarkably otherwise on root formation. |
