dc.description.abstract Due to the financial crisis in Greece, the agricultural sector is in need of a development and modernization program which will ensure farmers a satisfying income. Besides, the agricultural sector is directly connected with and supports a series of other financial branches which, either as customers or suppliers, represent 70% of the employment, 73% of the national economy and 63% of the employees’ fees. The upward compression of prices in rural products over the last few years led many farmers to the immediate disposal of their production to consumers. The Auctions of Agricultural Products offer a solution to all these initiatives. The aim of this essay is to study the way auctions function in Belgium and Holland and proceed to the study of the Dodecanese county case. Some conclusions of the research indicated that very few respondents are aware of what the Auctions of Agricultural Products are. Those who are aware of what the Auctions are, consider that the benefits, the perspectives for the Auction prices will fluctuate in considerably adequate levels thanks to the reduction of the prices of rural products in addition to the increase of their available quantity and furthermore, thanks to the bigger variety of rural products available, the choices of the quality specifications and the raise of the farmers’ and generally the whole island’s income. el
